At the 1931 Paris motor show, Jérôme Donnet was keen to put behind him the economic troubles of the Great Depression with an elegant new car design submitted to him by the famous automotive engineer Jean-Albert Grégoire. Donnet had made a large amount of money producing aircraft during World War I and in 1924 built the new Automobiles Zedel factory at Pontarlier. His cars sold well helping Donnet to become France's fourth largest car maker in 1927. Alexey Brodovitch effectively illustrates the heights of fashion and luxury as a well-to-do couple gazes at the latest Donnet model through a large showroom window.
