Using his unique Pop Art style of enlarged dots, broad outlines, and strong, flat color, Roy Lichtenstein composes an image of a saxophone and its faceless player that acts as a simple yet stylish and powerful advertisement for the Aspen Jazz festival. Lichtenstein was commissioned through Leo Castelli Gallery to design this colourful 1967 Aspen Winter Jazz Poster which has become an enduring jazz art classic. Starting in 1963, Richard Gibson - a New Yorker who had moved West but missed the musical vibe of the big city - began holding Jazz Parties in Aspen in the Rocky Mountains.
